These include batteries like AA, AAA, and others, as well as batteries and accumulators used in mobile phones, laptops, wireless power tools, toys, and household appliances (e.g., electric toothbrushes, razors, etc.). Batteries disposed of in landfills with household waste begin to decay and release heavy metals such as nickel, cadmium, zinc, lead, etc., most of which have carcinogenic effects.

Heavy metals released into the environment can alter soil composition, burn plant leaves, and damage animal skin.
They can enter plants grown for food and, from there, enter the bodies of animals and humans. Once in the human body, heavy metals can damage DNA and cells, increasing the risk of cancer.
High lead concentrations can cause long-term negative effects on the circulatory and nervous systems.
Cadmium slows down protein metabolism in the body, leading to headaches, dizziness, irritation, insomnia, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, disturbances in olfactory sensitivity, nosebleeds, difficulty breathing, coughing, and chest pain.

Improper disposal of batteries and galvanic elements should be avoided. They should be left in designated collection containers designed to prevent environmental and public health hazards.
